The Science
Ingredients & Technology
Our company does not attribute any disease-prevention, treatment, or curative properties to our products, nor do we imply any such properties. That said, in the interest of transparency we provide the following information about the health effects of this product's active ingredients and their scientific background. We aim to present the latest, independent, and authoritative research to give interested readers a clear picture of the evidence. This is not intended to encourage a purchase. If our customers return to us with repeat orders, we hope it is only because they have experienced GAL's benefits for themselves, that is what we believe in, and why we do this work.
In both our newly launched turmeric product and our longer-standing turmeric products, we use the two best curcumin raw materials currently available. Below, we explain what makes them so special, and what benefits they offer the body.
What Makes Turmeric Special?
Turmeric root has been used in India and neighboring countries for at least 4,000 years. It's one of their most treasured medicinal herbs, and an essential ingredient in many of their spice blends. Its distinctive effects quickly caught the interest of science, leading to increasingly extensive research over time.
Curcumin, the compound responsible for turmeric's yellow color, is one of the most extensively studied natural active ingredients, offering effective support for a wide range of issues through its strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The one problem is that curcumin taken by mouth doesn't cross from the gut into the bloodstream, and for it to benefit the whole body rather than just the digestive tract, it has to reach the bloodstream somehow.
Who Should Consider Turmeric Products?
Fortunately, several solutions now exist to get orally taken curcumin into the bloodstream at a meaningful rate. These preparations have proven effective in many cases well beyond digestive issues. Among the various absorption-boosting approaches, we use the most natural, best-utilized methods, and made them even more distinctive with our own in-house development.
Curcumin supplementation has shown promising results in the following cases:
- Easing joint inflammation and the chronic pain that comes with it
- Reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression (by easing nervous-system inflammation)
- Other conditions linked to chronic inflammation, such as inflammatory bowel disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers
- Favorably influencing blood lipids, liver values, and other inflammation markers important for health, as well as improving cardiovascular function
What Are Turmeric's Main Active Compounds?
Turmeric's main active compounds are curcuminoids. Of the 3 curcuminoids it contains, curcumin is the most significant. Beyond curcuminoids, turmeric also contains essential oil components, the most potent of which are the so-called aromatic turmerones. These improve the utilization of curcuminoids, but also have beneficial effects of their own, including anti-inflammatory action. Beyond curcuminoids and essential oil components (turmerones), turmeric also contains water-soluble, anti-inflammatory polysaccharides, which, like curcumin, have proven effective for joint complaints.
So turmeric's most effective and most-studied components are its curcuminoids, but its essential oil components (aromatic turmerones) and water-soluble polysaccharides are beneficial too. To experience all of curcuminoids' positive effects, you need to choose a product that's genuinely well absorbed.
Important differences between turmeric products
As with any active ingredient delivery method, what determines a turmeric preparation's effectiveness is how well its active compounds actually reach the organs, tissues, and cells they're meant to benefit.
For our bodies to actually make use of curcuminoids, they first need to cross the intestinal wall, then be sustained at an adequate blood level for as long as possible so they can enter cells. Since the body tries to eliminate curcuminoids, making a product effective isn't easy. To achieve this, various technologies have been tried, combining curcuminoids with other substances or using different methods to improve their absorption.
Many curcuminoid-containing products exist, but only two of them reliably produce a high enough sustained blood level to actually deliver curcuminoids to cells: CurQfen® and BCM-95®/Curcugreen®. Of these, only CurQfen® has been studied with research tracking curcuminoids' complete journey through every organ after intake, both short- and long-term. CurQfen® is also the only one with a human clinical study confirming its entry into the brain via measurable brainwave changes. It's also the subject of most studies measuring how different doses raise free curcumin blood levels.
What Are the Ingredients and Benefits of the New GAL Curcuma Complex?
CurQfen®
The main ingredient in GAL Curcuma Complex is CurQfen®, which is 100% natural: about 40% curcuminoids, with the remaining ~60% a galactomannan fiber extracted from fenugreek seed (this fiber extract is free of the saponins and phytoestrogens found in fenugreek seed). Using ultrasound, the FenuMAT® technology builds a matrix structure with this fiber for the curcuminoids, a next-generation liposomal-style technology.
This technology achieves an effect that not only delivers the active compounds into the bloodstream while bypassing the liver, digestive tract, and the neutralizing enzyme systems that come with them, but does so evenly and over an extended period, so that every cell in the body, including brain cells, can absorb as much as possible and reach the cell's internal structures. In a sense, this can even outperform intravenous dosing, comparable in effectiveness to half a day or a full day of steady, even intravenous administration.
We Combined the Two Most Effective Products
We asked the specialists behind FenuMAT® technology to develop a version of CurQfen® specifically for us, one that integrates not just the curcuminoids, but turmeric root's own essential oil into the FenuMAT® fiber matrix, processed to the same aromatic-turmerone-to-curcuminoid ratio found in Curcugreen, the turmeric preparation we'd previously considered the best available. In effect, it's as if FenuMAT® technology were applied to that already-excellent raw material, combining the strengths of the two most effective products, Curcugreen® and CurQfen®.
Also Contains Turmacin
Alongside the custom-developed CurQfen®, we also blended in Turmacin® to give the product the benefits of turmeric's water-soluble polysaccharides too. We chose Turmacin® because it's 100% natural and contains only turmeric's water-soluble active compounds, the turmeric polysaccharides, and because a clinical study already exists on its joint-inflammation-easing effect. While this evidence is far less extensive than the clinical research behind BCM-95® and CurQfen®, it does exist. We also like to think that turmeric's water-soluble polysaccharides aren't there by accident, perhaps there's a synergy between them and curcuminoids, much as there already appears to be between curcuminoids and turmerones.
A Much Lower Dose Is Enough
CurQfen®'s huge advantage, even over BCM-95®, is that a much smaller amount of active ingredient is needed to achieve the same effect. In other words, proportionally less curcumin ends up in the gut and more in the blood, which is a real advantage for anyone who experiences digestive issues with other turmeric extracts, such as loose stools, heartburn, or nausea. Just 250mg of CurQfen® (about 91mg of curcuminoid content) already delivers an adequately high blood level, and even a daily dose of 400mg has clinically demonstrated effectiveness for joint issues.
Who do we recommend the new GAL Curcuma Complex for?
Based on the current state of the science, our GAL Curcuma Complex offers the most that's currently available, but we've kept our earlier GAL Curcugreen Forte product available too, as a proven, stable option. If you don't see enough improvement from our earlier products, we'd encourage you to give the new GAL Curcuma Complex a try.
Dosage
It's worth taking 1–3 capsules a day, even all at once if taking more than 1. Food doesn't affect its efficacy, so it can be taken with or without a meal.
