    The Science

    Ingredients & Technology

Our company does not attribute any disease-prevention, treatment, or curative properties to our products, nor do we imply any such properties. That said, in the interest of transparency we provide the following information about the health effects of this product's active ingredients and their scientific background. We aim to present the latest, independent, and authoritative research to give interested readers a clear picture of the evidence. This is not intended to encourage a purchase. The Health Benefits of Fish Oil

It's hard to list every benefit of fish oil, that is, of a healthy omega-3 ratio and a high intake of EPA, DPA, and DHA fatty acids. Briefly, the benefits confirmed by research so far:

    Brain and nervous system:

    • Reduces aggression, irritability, and low mood.
    • Supports learning and boosts intelligence, and increases brain mass and development, especially when intake is already adequate during pregnancy.

    Cardiovascular system:

    • Helps maintain vessel elasticity, and regulates heart rhythm and cholesterol levels.
    • Significantly reduces triglyceride levels, and blood pressure in those with hypertension.

    Other benefits:

    • General anti-inflammatory effect.
    • Benefits the tiny blood vessels of the eyes.
    • Helps maintain healthy hair and skin.
    • At high blood EPA and DHA levels, the telomeres that protect the ends of our DNA strands shorten more slowly, currently the most accurate marker of expected lifespan.

    About Omega-3

A healthy ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is essential for the body to function properly. While two omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) produce various anti-inflammatory compounds, excessive omega-6 intake only increases inflammation in the body over the long term. This is dangerous because most common diseases of civilization develop as a result of chronically elevated inflammation, which also significantly accelerates aging.

    Restoring a Healthy Omega-3/6 Ratio

Humans are genetically “designed” for an omega-3/6 fatty acid ratio close to 1:1. Our ancestors maintained this ratio, as do the healthiest population groups alive today. Unfortunately, the decline of saltwater fish and shellfish in our diets, combined with excessive consumption of high-omega-6 vegetable oils and the fat of grain-fed animals, has shifted this ideal ratio sharply toward omega-6 in Western societies (1:8 to 1:32), a shift that may be behind many diseases of civilization.

The best way to restore the ratio is to significantly cut back on omega-6-rich foods, take a pure EPA and DHA supplement regularly, or eat saltwater fish and shellfish several times a week.

Why Most Plant-Based Omega-3 Oils Fall Short

With the exception of algae oil, plant-based omega-3 oils aren't a good source, because their omega-3 content is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) rather than EPA and DHA, and the body converts only a very small fraction of ALA into the EPA and DHA it can actually use. It's also worth noting that plant-based omega-3 (ALA) reduces the body's formation of dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid, another beneficial, anti-inflammatory fatty acid whose production is already suppressed by excessive omega-6 intake.

The Benefits of GAL Omega-3 Eco

While a good-quality liquid fish oil is the most economical way to get enough EPA and DHA daily, many people still prefer capsules. GAL Omega-3 Eco capsules contain the highest-quality, purest fish oil available anywhere, chosen for the following reasons:

    Eco

Produced with zero ecological footprint from small, wild-caught fish. The fishing process protects biodiversity, and thanks to modern production methods, no excess waste or pollutants are generated, it's also certified by IFFO RS and Friends of the Sea.

    Purity

Made 100% from a small, wild, short-lived anchovy species whose main diet is krill and various plankton. Thanks to this and the unpolluted fishing grounds, the raw oil is already clean to begin with, but it's further purified with a new, gentle, patented process, so that no contaminant is detectable even with the most precise testing methods available. A purer fish oil simply doesn't exist.

    Freshness

Processing begins immediately after the fish are caught, with no storage, so its TOTOX value, which measures the oxidation of omega-3 fatty acids, stays remarkably low, under 5. Per unit of active ingredient, this is the freshest fish oil in the world.

    Extra high active ingredient content

Each GAL Omega-3 Eco softgel contains 700mg of omega-3 fatty acids, 350mg EPA, 250mg DHA, and 100mg DPA and SDA. (Other fish oil capsules typically contain between 100–350mg of omega-3.)

    Naturalness

In its natural triglyceride (TG) form, rather than the cheap, synthetic ethyl ester (EE) form typical of concentrated fish oils. Beyond the romantic appeal of “natural,” this matters because ethyl esters are digested and absorbed differently from the TG form found in nature. As studies increasingly rely on synthetic forms only, more and more analyses are concluding that fish oil is less effective than previously believed, perhaps a coincidence, but one more reason we use exclusively the natural TG form.

Since products aren't usually labeled either way, there's really only one way to tell whether a given fish oil is TG or EE: EE will start dissolving and eating through polystyrene foam within seconds, while TG won't.

    30% Better Utilization

Omega-3 fatty acids from molecularly purified, concentrated fish oil brought back into its natural (TG) final form are absorbed 30% better than from plain natural fish oil, let alone the EE form.

IFOS, the renowned and strict Canadian body that rates fish oil products, gave it the maximum 5-star rating, and it exceeded even that standard's requirements by a wide margin.

    Preserving Stability

To keep it fresh (low TOTOX) for as long as possible, we stabilize it with our own proprietary antioxidant blend, RSPO-certified (“orangutan-friendly”), sustainably sourced red palm fruit tocotrienols, a natural vitamin E complex (8 types of tocopherols and tocotrienols), and antioxidants extracted from Greek sage using a chemical-free process (so-called supercritical extraction).

    Dosage

Just 1 capsule of our product a day is enough for omega-3 to deliver its full effects on the brain, eyes, and cardiovascular system, since that requires a minimum of 500mg EPA+DHA. An average fish oil capsule would require 2–6 capsules to reach that amount, even if the label recommends just 1 a day. For the triglyceride-lowering effect, however, at least 2000mg EPA+DHA is needed per EFSA guidance, so 3–4 capsules may be needed for that purpose (not 8–20, as with most fish oil capsules).
